This comprehensive two-day orientation for full-time faculty will provide you with the basic information that every GW faculty member should know and information regarding the various offices and networks that support faculty research and teaching at the university.

Unconscious bias may be undermining even our most fervent desire to support the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. In this session, participants will:
- explore the concept and meaning of unconscious bias
- discuss Harvard University’s Implicit Association Test
- review key research-based examples on the many ways that UB can impact hiring, assessments, and decision-making
- discuss strategies for combating unconscious bias in hiring and interactions with colleagues, staff, and students

Supporting Student Success, Retention & Graduation
Students persisting to completion of their educational goals is the primary indicator of student success. While many factors impact student experiences and subsequently time to degree, this presentation focus on GW's undergraduate retention and graduation efforts including high impact practices and academic resources, and ways in which faculty can support student success.

Anti-Discrimination Basics and Best Practices for GW Faculty and Academic Leaders is an educational session designed to help participants understand:
- foundational supreme court cases and laws that form the basis of the university’s anti-discrimination policies
- specific kinds of conduct that could violate anti-discrimination laws or university policy
- the role that intent and impact play in the university’s assessment of a complaint
- the critically important role of each member of the GW community in preventing incidents
- the special responsibility of supervisors for addressing problems that arise
- complaint pathways and university resources
